2018 San Domenico 20 Mile & 10 Mile races

Cancellation – final update 23/03/2018 9AM

It was with deep disappointment that we had to cancel our 20 and 10 Mile races due to be held on Sunday 18th March 2018 in Merthyr Tydfil. On race day it was proved to be the correct decision for competitors, marshals and race traffic.

San Domenico Running Club are a small running club based in Cardiff, South Wales. The 20 Mile and 10 Mile road races are organised by members who volunteer their services and time to put this event on the race calendar. We doubt that anyone is more disappointed than these volunteers that the race had to be cancelled with the time and effort they put in to the event.

After consulting with our service providers, we can confirm that we will not be re-arranging the races to another weekend in 2018.

There is a considerable cost involved when staging an event, and the main costs of service providers and suppliers are already committed to well before race day. San Domenico RC is a not-for-profit organisation that is self-funded by the events it organises throughout the year, enabling it to promote athletics in both the local communities that it operates within and the wider athletics community.

In recompense to you for the loss of your opportunity to run in the 2018 event we will do the following

  1. All entrants will be automatically transferred to the corresponding 2019 event with guaranteed entry (2019 20 Miler & 2019 10 Miler). Administration wise this is the easiest option for our volunteers.
To give you flexibility there will still be the option to transfer your place to a fellow athlete or switch from one race to the other. This will be open up until 8PM on the Friday before the 2019 race.

    OR
  2. You have the option of a refund, by posted cheque, of your race entry fee – you have until 2nd April 2018 to apply for this.
    20 Miler affiliated - £18
    20 Miler un-affiliated - £20
    10 Miler affiliated - £10
    10 Miler un-affiliated - £12

To do this we need the following information:
Your race bib number – see here: http://my5.raceresult.com/85546/participants
    Payee name
    Full address

For this option please email the details to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

If you choose this option, please bear with us as it is a manual process for our volunteers to generate cheques and could take many weeks to do so.

We are deeply sorry for the weather-driven cancellation of this year’s events and the inconvenience this may have caused you, but we do hope that you will join us at the 2019 events.

Headphone, earphones, ear-buds and similar equipment

Along with many other race organisers we have endeavoured to persuade runners not to wear headphones, earphones or similar equipment during races. These efforts have failed and consequently we have no alternative but to adopt a strict disqualification practice for any runner seen wearing headphones, earphones or similar equipment. In respect of this race it is important that runners can hear the verbal warnings and instructions issued by race marshals.

Are you fit to run?

You are responsible for being suitably fit and healthy to complete this event. Although the majority of the course is on the Taff Trail, we do not have exclusive use of it so please observe the normal rules of traffic and obey any instructions given by the marshals. There are a number of anti-vehicle bollards in the centre of the path, please take care when passing these. If possible warn other runners of their presence.  Unless otherwise directed by a marshal stay on the right hand side of the route.  If you injure yourself or see anyone hurt please inform the nearest marshal. There will be first aid cover during the event.  There are several access points on the Taff Trail where spectators can watch the race, please observe any instructions given by a marshal at these points.
