Road Championship

  • any marathon during calendar year; points awarded based upon fastest times
  • any half marathon during calendar year, excluding any that are already in the championship; points awarded based upon fastest times. As Cardiff Trail Half and Cardiff Half are not eligible (since they are named races in the championship), this may not actually be your fastest half marathon of the year

Masters Championship

Masters championships are the same races but only include people who were 40 or older on January 1st.  For 2022 there are 10 year age groups where we have members in those age groups - so for Men it's 40, 50, 60. For women it's 50 only. This will change as and when we get members in the relevant age groups.

Off-road Championship

Not being held in 2023.

Cross-country (XC) Championship

TBC

Handicap Championship - 4 Miles - April to September

There are 6 races in the series with the best 4 over the course of the year to count for championship points. Awards are made at the end of the series. There is no entry fee and all members are welcome. Non-members are also welcome, although they cannot score points in the club handicap championship.
Slower runners will start first with faster runners following at appropriate intervals, with the objective that all will finish at about the same time. It's all very informal and the key point is to have fun allied with some exercise, plus a visit to a local pub afterwards!

Eligibility notes for all championship races:

  • be officially entered in the race in your own name;
  • be at the start on time, and start with the rest of the runners;
  • appear in the official race results;
  • be a member of the club on the date of the race;
  • You no longer have to wear your club vest for your time to count (except in races where other rules require it, such as the Gwent League), although we strongly encourage that you do so as it helps to promote the club (and rumour has it that it makes you go faster);
  • If the race uses 'chip timing' then the time used for the championships will be the 'chip time';
  • Although we try to avoid this, in the event of a championship race clashing with a Gwent League race, the Gwent League race will take precedence and an alternative Championship event will be sought if possible. An historical example of this is the Sodbury Slog clashing with the Bath Gwent League fixture;
  • It is the runner's responsibility to ensure that they are credited with the correct points in the club championships.

Ties

If 2 or more people tie on points the championship finishing order is decided on a 'head-to-head' countback.

Spot a problem? Awarded too many points ;-)
Contact John Light, giving him as much info as possible - a link to the race results would be ideal.
